Expert Neurofeedback treatment in the heart of Toronto
Balance your nervous system, improve your mental health
Since the 1960s, Neurofeedback has provided relief to those struggling with common physical and emotional conditions such as anxiety, depression, migraines, sleep disorders, and CPTSD.
Previously, patients have had to rely on years of talk therapy and medication. With neurofeedback, patients can harness the power of neuroplasticity to calm their nervous system and heal their brains.
In many instances, Neurofeedback is so effective at improving well-being that many of our clients are able to reduce or even end their dependence on medication.
How is it that Neurofeedback can address such a wide variety of symptoms?
A healthy, well-regulated nervous system is stable, flexible, and capable of adapting to a variety of situations and also capable of calming itself down. Many of our clients come to us with symptoms related to being “stuck” in a state of “high arousal.” Neurofeedback training teaches the nervous system how to calm down and helps to restore balance and stability.
Psyche & Soma’s approach
At Psyche & Soma, we use the Othmer Method, a unique form of brain training developed by Siegfried and Sue Othmer in the 1980s.
The Othmers pioneered “Infra Low Neurofeedback” (ILF), a type of Neurofeedback that is dramatically more effective than other forms. The low frequencies used in the Othmer Method uniquely train the whole brain, creating a global effect. ILF is particularly effective at balancing highly aroused nervous systems and treating brain trauma.
Psyche & Soma is one of the few clinics in Canada offering this highly effective treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
+ How does Neurofeedback training work?
Neurofeedback is essentially a way of holding up a mirror to the brain. Through the use of sensors placed on the scalp we are able to record the brain’s electrical activity, and then send the information to a video monitor viewed by the client. As the client observes the feedback it begins to influence their physical and emotional state. Clients are often astonished that they begin to feel changes almost immediately. At first, changes are brief in duration but with continued training the brain begins to hold changes for progressively longer periods of time.
+ Who can benefit from Neurofeedback training?
No matter who you are or what you do, you can always benefit from a calmer, more resilient nervous system. Professional athletes and musicians have used Neurofeedback for decades in order to optimize focus and self control to achieve peak levels of performance. We work with clients who come to us seeking relief from a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms. Neurofeedback can also be used by anyone seeking to increase focus and develop greater emotional resilience.
+ How many training sessions do you recommend?
Many of our clients, begin to notice positive results within the first few sessions. As you continue to train, your brain becomes more accustomed to these changes and begins to maintain them for longer periods of time until the changes become “the new normal.” People come to us with a variety of physical and emotional symptoms and since every brain is unique it’s not possible to give a firm number. In our experience many of our clients show significant, permanent symptom relief within 20 sessions.
+ What is the science behind Neurofeedback training?
Neurofeedback has been used to treat physical and emotional symptoms since the 1960’s. Its acceptance by the medical and psychological communities has been hampered by the lack of funding necessary to finance the large scale studies that these communities use as their “gold standard” for clinical effectiveness. Nevertheless, there are many smaller research efforts that clearly demonstrate Neurofeedback’s effectiveness. As the medical and psychological communities are confronted by this mounting evidence they are slowly beginning to recognize the clinical potential that Neurofeedback training offers.
+ Is the EEG technology you use safe?
Neurofeedback is completely safe. It has been used safely and successfully for over 40 years.
"Neurofeedback has no adverse effects while psychopharmacological interventions... are associated with side effects. Outcomes of Neurofeedback training are maintained over time and do not reverse after treatment is withdrawn."
— Robert Cohen, Ph.D.
