ADHD and Attentional Problems
Do you have difficulty sustaining attention while completing tasks? Are you often easily distracted? Do you avoid tasks that require sustained mental effort or thought? Do you often have trouble listening? Is it difficult for you to do an organized activity or task? How often do you forget to do something or make careless mistakes?
Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity are conditions characterized by excessive distractibility, impulsiveness and for many, hyperactivity. Attentional problems have long been thought to affect children primarily but we now recognize that attentional issues are often undiagnosed among adults well. Research has shown that many who struggle with attentional issues demonstrate excessive low frequency brain activity in the prefrontal region of the brain which creates difficulties in executive functions such as attention, working memory, planning organization, and impulse control.
Treatment for attentional problems has traditionally been done with stimulant medications. Some people have good results with medication, but for many, stimulant medications create unpleasant side effects and there is speculation that stimulant medication has long term health risks.
How we can help
Neurofeedback is an effective, scientifically-proven treatment for ADHD and attentional problem. It is an excellent option for those looking for an alternative to stimulant medication.
We offer two forms of Neurofeedback that have been shown to have a positive impact on executive functioning. Infralow Neurofeedback, which focuses on improving the brain’s electrical activity and pIR HEG Neurofeedback, which stimulates growth development by increasing blood flow and metabolic activity in the PFC. After a Cognitive Performance Test an individualized training plan is developed that specifically targets executive functioning.
